Biography —
I grew up in Chicago, Illinois on the southside of Chicago. My family is originally from Monterrey, Mexico. I gained a love for nature during my visits to Mexico where nature was abundant in the mountainous city I was from. In Chicago I got more interested in nature by visiting the zoo, playing in my apartment’s back yard, flipping over rocks, and observing the biotic interactions occurring underneath. Living in an urban environment piqued my curiosity about the nature that existed outside and within it.
Research —
I am a physiological ecologist with a focus on mammals and birds, the anthropogenic factors that influence their behavior, and the homeostatic functions that mediate them. I am interested in how animal behavior influences the surrounding ecosystem by considering vegetation diversity and the role homeostatic functions play in feedback interactions.
